Deepening crisis in Thailand: 2 dead over 400 injured
The situation is much worse in Thailand including Bangkok. Very violent clashes took place near the parliament when the Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat was to hold its general policy speech.
Supporters of PAD (People Alliance for Democracy) are hostile to the powers that be who they accused of being in the pay of Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. The latter was overthrown in a coup and has fled the country to live in England because many corruption cases against him. The current Thai Prime Minister none other than the brother of Thaksin. Entrenched
around the seat of government, the demonstrators were determined to prevent Somchai from making his speech. That's when the situation has degenerated into when riot police fired tear gas early to try to disperse the insurgents. The clash left two people dead and more than 410 people injured, many critically in the ranks of demonstrators on the other side, eight policemen were wounded by gunfire gun or stabbed. Following these incidents the Thai army was recalled as reinforcements to try to contain the insurgency.
The current government of Somchai Wongsawat is made by the PPP (People's Power Party), the latter is supported mainly in rural areas and some businessmen who built their fortunes thanks to Thaksin Shinawatra. On the other hand, the PAD is a diverse coalition composed mostly of military Bangkok and royalists. Meanwhile
democracy back alarmingly in Thailand. Yesterday a fourth journalist murdered since the beginning of the year.
