key state of emergency was lifted in Bangkok, Thailand
The state of emergency was lifted in Bangkok today by the Prime Minister Abhisit. The latter said he wanted to show to the international community that the situation had returned to normal "and that he would launch a profound institutional reforms. The tension and discomfort is still palpable and the "red shirts" do not seem to have completely abdicated. Their leaders continue to prepare other actions in hiding as many of them are on the stroke of a warrant particularly former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra in exile, while others have been charged and imprisoned for "obstructing traffic, incitement to disobedience and finally for unlawful assembly in violation of a state of emergency in Bangkok."

Prime Minister declares state of emergency and cancel the ASEAN summit due to violent anti-government demonstrations in Pattaya Thailand
Thai Prime Minister Abhisit declared a state of emergency and had to cancel the 14th ASEAN Summit which was held today in Pattaya Following the violent anti-government protests that left one person dead and dozens injured. The protest of the "red shirts" is backed by former Prime Minister ousted and exiled Thaksin Shinawatra. The thousands of protesters who are calling for new elections and the return of Thakin managed to enter the building or the leaders of the south-east were gathered. Among them, 16 including the presidents of China, India, New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia, Japan and South Korea.
For security reasons, all heads of states were therefore evacuated by helicopter. The summit is postponed to a later date.
The red shirts promise new events that will harden if the government did not meet their demands.
Thailand is facing an alarming crisis and instability since a military coup in September 2006.
