The state of emergency was lifted in Bangkok today by the Prime Minister Abhisit. The latter said he wanted to show to the international community that the situation had returned to normal "and that he would launch a profound institutional reforms. The tension and discomfort is still palpable and the "red shirts" do not seem to have completely abdicated. Their leaders continue to prepare other actions in hiding as many of them are on the stroke of a warrant particularly former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra in exile, while others have been charged and imprisoned for "obstructing traffic, incitement to disobedience and finally for unlawful assembly in violation of a state of emergency in Bangkok."
