The state of emergency announced by Thai Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej this morning
Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej announced Tuesday morning the state of emergency in Bangkok following violent confrontations that have led to many serious injuries and one death between pro and anti government. Thousands of supporters of Samak Sundaravej had delivered yesterday at the Government House which is occupied by protesters of the People's Alliance for Democracy (APD) for almost a week, which led to these clashes.
Thailand's Prime Minister said: "Following the violence of this morning, the state of emergency is a necessary measure to stop the illegal action demonstrators occupying the seat of government. " Then he added: "The leaders of the PAD must be stopped."
Samak Sundaravej had given the order to exclude the application of paragraph 1 of Article 9 which prohibits people from leaving their home or going to work for the state of emergency. It aims primarily to prohibit gatherings of more than 5 persons and to prosecute against leaders of protests that have chosen not to leave their seats at the government house.
Airport Hat Yai and Krabi would again be blocked this morning by protesters while that of Phuket operate normally.
